2022 Custom Home Design Trends

By Cedar Park Home Remodels

As we settle into our new normal post-pandemic, we have gained perspective and wisdom in regards to our homes. It is now clear to our homeowners what they want in the spaces where they live. All of the trends that we are seeing in 2022 reflect this intentionality, uniqueness, and creativity. All these trends encourage self-reflection.

Greens and Browns

BROWN, after years of declining in popularity, is back! More and more homes are choosing brown to complement their custom homes. In addition, the rising popularity of GREEN in the second half of last year has grown into a serious obsession. In many of the homes that we are currently building, or just recently completed, deep and rich tones have found their way into our homes. Is it any wonder that we have embraced two of nature's most stunning colors after living through a pandemic for a few years?

Natural Elements

It appears that the trend to incorporate natural-inspired surfaces or objects into our homes will not be going away, at least not in the near future. It's important to let natural light in and allow for quality ventilation. This trend is also being maintained by organic materials such as stone, wood, and hand-crafted Masonry. There will be more botanical, animal, or floral-inspired fabrics, wallpaper, and upholstery this year. In architecture and interior design circles, Biophilic Design refers to this concept as it aims at creating a visual connection to nature and the positive environmental and health benefits that go with it.

Bathrooms and Kitchens in Dark Colors

Many of our homeowners were surprised to see a trend growing in popularity. Interior design professionals are increasingly embracing moody and dark kitchens and bathrooms. However, some clients love this trend and others view it skeptically. We have been delighted to see many of our homeowners take on risks with their bathrooms and kitchens over the past months. They are excited about the drama and mood that these spaces will instill in their homes. We are, too.

Bold colors and patterns

Contrary to the "dark-and-moody kitchen" trend, nearly everyone seems excited about this new trend. Interior designers and homeowners are both eager to incorporate bold colors into their homes. Homeowners who aren’t comfortable with bold colors and patterns may be hesitant to take the plunge into a dark, cramped kitchen. To create a look that is unique and personal, each person is encouraged and encouraged to use deep and rich colors.

Vintage and Sustainable Accents

It's long past the time of matching furniture and materials. We are now able to appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of artisanal finishes, furnishings as well as textiles, decor, and art. With the rise in popularity of the "grand millennial", or granny-chic style, and the push towards sustainability and repurposing, vintage is in high demand. These are all great benefits. They can help you feel closer to those around you, as well as higher quality and longer life.

Mixing textures and patterns

It's all about layering. Any amount of mixing creates more depth and visual stimulation in the space. While some homeowners like a minimal, well-curated mix pattern and texture, others love the flexibility and freedom that comes with the "the more the better" mentality.

Curved Furniture Pieces

There has been an increase in the use of organic lines and sculptural shapes in recent years. Wall finishes, tile design, furniture pieces, and wall finishes are all exploring sloped lines, curves, and asymmetrical shapes. This is in line with the creativity, uniqueness, and innovation that can be found in all of these trends.

Mindful Spaces

Each of us recognizes the value of having a space in our home that we can use to reflect and recharge. It is now a priority for homeowners to design such a space. Our homeowners have added prayer rooms and spa-like bathrooms to their homes. We also included steam showers, saunas, personal saunas, meditation "Pendens", and steam showers. Although the decor and hard finishes can vary depending on what space is being used, the overall goal is to create an environment where people are more present and mindful in their daily lives.

If you're imagining what your home will look like in the next year, you might choose to incorporate some of the trends we're seeing...or you may not. That's the essence behind each of the design trends this year: you get to design the home YOU love. Happy curating!
