Introducing a New Method of Sharing Content on Social Networks – Twitter Fleets!
After months of testing in selected markets, Twitter confirmed the global launch of a new story-like feature called “Fleets”.
All major functions of Instagram Stories, all Twitter For the first time, users can post short-lived content on the social network.
Here’s everything you need to know about Twitter fleets:
What are Twitter Fleets?
The “Stories Format” has proven to be very popular since Snapchat first appeared in 2011. It was adapted for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and most recently for Twitter.
According to the announcement from TwitterToday we’re launching fleets so that everyone can participate in the conversations in a new way – with their fleeting thoughts.”
The thing you didn’t tweet but wanted but didn’t get that close but then how close you were.

The announcement further explains that fleets provide a place for users to share casual, everyday thoughts without thinking about the persistence of those thoughts.
“Some people say they feel insecure about tweeting because tweets are public, persistent, and have public engagements (likes and retweets). We want to enable you to have conversations in new ways, in new ways, with less pressure more control. ”
Hence, it stands for “Fleet” – which, if you haven’t guessed it, stands for “fleeting tweets.”
What is the difference between fleets and normal tweets?
Well youUnlike normal tweets, fleets disappear after 24 hours and cannot be retweeted or liked.
You can stream text, reactions to tweets, photos or videos, and customize your fleets with various background and text options.
Also, you can respond to fleets by tapping one and sending a direct message or emoji to the creator, which will start a DM conversation.
There are also plans to introduce stickers and live broadcasts to fleets in the future.
A user’s fleets are shown at the top of their homepage, and anyone with access to your full profile can find your fleets there too.
With your DMs open, users can respond to your fleets with a text-based message or an emoji.

How to share a twitter fleet
Fleets are being rolled out in all markets so you may already have access to the new feature.
To post your first fleet:
To create a fleet, first tap the “+” button at the top of your fleet feed (just like you did with Instagram Stories).
From here you can enter up to 280 characters of text or add photos, GIFs or videos. You can customize fleet text, responses to tweets, photos or videos, and your fleets with various background and text options.
Once you hit “Post”, your fleet will appear in an Instagram-like feed at the top of people’s feeds.
To share a tweet in a fleet, tap the “Share” icon at the bottom of the tweet, then tap “Share in fleet”.
TIP: We anticipate the fleet’s responses to tweets will be a big social trend to exchange messages and start conversations. Now is the time to give your Twitter strategy a boost!

What Twitter fleets mean for companies
From Twitter’s announcement, it is clear that their hope for Fleets is to get more users engaged on the platform – especially those who are less comfortable with sharing regular (persistent) tweets.
It might well be, but it depends on how many people are taking on the feature (and how often they use it). For example, while Instagram Stories was an almost instant success, Facebook Stories gained momentum more slowly.
With fleets only being tested in select markets such as Brazil prior to their global launch, it is difficult to say how they will perform.
That being said, you can Check out Twitter’s own hashtag #FleetsFeedback to browse user feedback on this feature (keep in mind that most of the tweets are in Portuguese as this was the primary test market, but we predict the global feedback will be available soon!).

So should companies jump on the trend?
It’s too early to say, but we’re definitely hopeful! Ephemeral content is one of the biggest social media success stories in recent years, and Twitter can potentially achieve that success with Fleets.
